Contract Detroit guides
Planning Materials for Your Project
Discuss delivery, storage, and responsibility before work begins.
Step 1
Make a materials list
Agree on who buys each material and what specifications and quantities are needed. Document substitutions.
Step 2
Plan delivery and storage
Confirm delivery dates, access, secure storage, and who can receive and sign for deliveries.
Step 3
Keep records
Save receipts, photos, and written agreements about ownership and responsibility. Contract Detroit does not manage materials or provide insurance.
Put it into practice
Agree on responsibilities before delivery.
Materials can affect the budget and schedule as much as labor. Keep a shared written record of selections and responsibilities so both sides know what has been agreed.
- Record product names, quantities, finishes, and agreed substitutions.
- Decide who orders, pays, receives, and checks each delivery.
- Confirm where materials will be stored and who can access them.
- Agree how damaged items, shortages, and returns will be handled.
- Save receipts and document any changes to the material budget.
Know before you connect
Common questions.
Can I hire and offer services with the same account?
Yes. Choose Both when signing up, or add the other role later. One account lets you hire for your own property and showcase the services you offer.
Does a listing mean a contractor is verified?
A directory profile is a starting point for your research. Ask for references and independently confirm any licensing and insurance relevant to your project before hiring.
How do quotes and payments work?
Discuss the scope and request a written quote directly from the professional. You agree on terms and payment together. Contract Detroit does not process payments or provide escrow.
